SATELLITE-DERIVED POSITIONS
Positions obtained from satellite navigation systems referred to WGS 84 Datum can be plotted directly onto this chart. Caution must be exercised in the transfer of geographical positions to other charts not in terms of WGS 84 Datum.

ANTARCTIC TREATY AREA
Mariners navigating in this area should be aware that regulations apply to such activity in the Antarctic Treaty Area. For more information contact the Antarctic Policy Unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

CURRENT
Mariners are warned that a current of up to 3 knots runs northwards along the coast of the Western Ross Sea. Large eddies and overfalls can be created where the current encounters restrictions such as grounded icebergs.

TIDAL LEVELS
Due to sparse tidal observations in this area, the tidal level information contained on this chart is approximate only.

MAGNETIC DECLINATION
Approaching the South Magnetic Pole, the annual change to the magnetic variation is large (generally greater than 30' E or W as applicable) and increases rapidly towards the pole.

SURVEYED AREA
A hydrographic survey has been conducted in this area.

CAUTION
Mariners should proceed with extreme caution as unidentified hazards may exist.
